Tornado Closet

I could be wrong, but I bet most of you have that area where you stash stuff and by stuff I mean:

wrapping paper, gift bags, gifts in general, or anything you just want to hide from your kids, your husband, or things you think you will use later!

The place that has built up and built up for me is the space under the stairs...

It is where we go if we hear tornado sirens...only this spring, there is no way we could fit 5 people in here...or better yet, if a tornado would really hit our home, we would get killed by all the flying stuff that is hanging out in the closet...

So....

Today, I dug it all out...braved spiders, bugs and anything else that choose that as their home because it has been ignored....

Here is what I started with (and you can't see how bad it is around the corner because it is too dark in there to get a decent picture....)

Here is what it looks like outside the closet...and this isn't all of it...not sure how it ever fit in there...

Legos anyone????

Guess I need to get back to work and figure out what to do with all this stuff...most of it is all new, in sealed boxes that I bought at that great sale price.  Better get the camera battery charged...this might be a job for ebay.

Gas Mask....not yet

My 2 boys (Jacob age 9 and Jonah age 7...soon to be 8) share a bedroom.  That makes for a messy room...but that also means they share a closet...double dose of junk all in one place...

So today, I clean the closet...I mean closets...well, ok, 1 closet but since they share it, I feel like I am cleaning 2 at the same time...here is what I started with today...

Lots if clothes, toys, shoe boxes, old backpacks, blankets, extra hangers, etc....

After 75 minutes, here is what I have accomplished, but there is still a few hours left to sort what I took out, put a few more things back in and just be done in general....which means, I need to organize some stuff from the bedroom, so it just moved into that....

But, I did come up with one simple idea...put those shoe boxes to work instead of getting more plastic containers...sure they don't look all uniform and neat, but I feel good about recycling and not buying into more plastic.  Yes, I just patted myself on the back!

Back to organizing I go!!

Back to Work??

I got a new job today...yes, you heard right...I am back to work...

Do you ever find yourself in this society being sucked into what is new, sales, more clothes, more toys...just more everything?

I am a sucker for sales...if you came to my house you would know...maybe.  If you took a tour of my home, opened closets, drawers, storage areas, you would see...

We are the typical American family with way too much stuff and I am the most guilty of it.  Yes, I like to shop, but my downfall is bargains...we have way more than we will ever use, need, or remember...all in the name of the bargain.

So you maybe are thinking, what does this have to do with a new job?

Today, I emoloyeed myself.   Yep, I am going to work, organizing and cleaning room by room, and my house is about to get messy before it really gets clean...our garbage will be full every week.  Goodwill will soon know my name.  A new Etsy destash store and Ebay will become my new friends.

I am going to do a lot of blogging, lots of before and after pictures and I am hoping this job will last just long enough to be finished before May 23 rolls around...I have 4000 square feet to go through...wish me luck!

Better yet, watch it all unfold right here!  Sign up and follow my blog!  :)  Favorite this spot for the next 3 months!

Copper Component Blog Reveal

I was so excited to participate in this blog hop with a focal from Kristi Bowman Gruel !  Kristi sent out a challenge and allowed everyone to take part (no drawing names for this one!).  I loved the opportunity not only to see some of her work, but to be challenged with copper, a metal I don't create a lot with!

When the focal arrived...I looked at it for a few weeks!   I loved the swirl in the design!

To bring out the swirl, I decided to coil copper wire and include some glass beads from Bubby & McGurk.  I picked all polka dot style in a wide variety of colors!  They are all mismatched because I really wanted to bring color into this piece so I could wear it with anything.

You will notice the center of the coiled pieces are slightly bent...this is to curve it with the wrist!  I think it almost has a spider like look!  :)

Last, I added a patina look clasp and some czech glass near the focal.  To bring the coils together
at each end, I used some large link copper chain.

I hope you like what I created!  I can't wait to hop around
and see what each person made!  Click on the links below to hop with me!  :)

Thanks Kristi for organizing!!
